First Class Real American Heroes: PART ONE Anthony and the Blackbird Naturals Tribe!

Oh what stars fell on me that I am so blessed to have such amazing friends!?  Once again, I headed out to hot sultry Phoenix, this time driving with Malcolm and Sam in tow.

Let me just say, it was melting hot and very humid in Palm Springs!  Malcolm was not a fan.

Sam loves swimming so she was hunky dory as long as she was in a pool.

Not much relief when night fell.. but it was beautiful.....

Early the next day, we set off across the arid sands for a four hour journey to paradise, Casa Paradiso to be exact!

Next Post: Leaving Palm Springs.. feels so good! We get to Paradise and meet the Family!

Sing along with me won't you?

' Real American Heroes.. ' yes, I am aware that song is for a beer commercial. But here at Debbie does raw, and at Grass fed Momma, those words mean much more.

This summer, I will be paying tribute to my own Real American Heroes, the men and women who inform, delight and just plain inspire me to greater heights!

Who are these heroes you ask?

Let's see..

Raw Model Food Forester Anthony Anderson and his Too Cute Blackbird Naturals crew!

Sugar Shock! author Connie Bennett

Matt Stone of 180 Degree Health!

and Many Many more..
Great Minds think alike.. and I want you all to know the people behind all that thinking!

Novy Ranch: Grass Fed Angus Beef

Long long ago in a town far far away, (ok Simi Valley) in Southern California,

my family lived with all our pets.
                                                                 Dr. Novy
Our family vet was Dr. Novy, highly respected in town and the ONLY vet my dad would take our purebred Lab Spooky to.  Flash forward to 2010, Facebook and a reconnection to an old hiking pal from Royal High, Darla.

Turns out Darla lives in the Shasta Valley area of Northern California, raising gorgeous horses on Forward Farms with her family.  Darla mentioned something about getting grass fed beef.. turns out, she works with the Novy Ranch!
Here is what Novy Ranch is all about:
Novy Ranches is a family operation based in the Shasta Valley area of Northern California since 1976.
The Ranch is comprised of two properties in Siskiyou County near  the small communities of Grenada and Gazelle. Surrounded by vast conifer forests, the Shasta Valley lies in the shadow of magnificent Mt. Shasta, a Cascade Range volcano. Additional acreage is held in adjacent Lassen County.

Blessed with an abundance of natural vegetation, water and natural beauty, the ranches  provide important habitat and sanctuary to a number of wild species. It is common to see migrating geese, swans, herons and Sand Hill cranes. Numerous raptors and many other bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian species make their homes here. Bald and Golden Eagles are frequent and revered guests on the Ranch. The Shasta River flows  through the Grenada Ranch property  and is critical habitat for the Coho Salmon.

It is the family’s goal to maintain the natural balance of the Ranches so that it’s open space and wildlife are protected now and well into the future.
The ranches are the ongoing  life work  and commitment of Dr. Lowell Novy, a veterinarian, whose interests in conservation, cattle-ranching and animal welfare have informed his decision to turn away from “traditional” feedlot cattle production by developing an entirely grass-fed  program that is healthy for the land, cows and people.

In a conversation with Daniel Vitalis, he advised me to start making bone broth.. from grass fed beef marrow bones. I was looking around for this when Darla let me know that Dr. Novy sells them, among many other items from his grass fed Angus. After not being able to get them in Simi, she was so kind as to send an incredible gift to my family, take a peek!                                                                                   Grass fed ground beef, tenderloin steak, tons of beef marrow bones and some tasty liver for my Malcolm! WOW! Thanks to Darla, I was able to make this lovely bone broth...

and these very tasty tenderloin kababobs with Korean BBQ sauce..
My Plate, so nourishing.. thanks to my good friend Darla and Dr. Novy's Ranch..

Something Wonderful This Way Comes!

If you are wondering if I have lost my mind, no, this is just my way of keeping all the non vegan stuff I do separate from my raw food blog. So if you follow me at Debbie Does Raw and you don't want to know what I am doing aside from raw food to heal me, then just stay there. If you have an interest in the grass fed, free range, wild side of me, Welcome to Grass Fed Momma!
